Interesting topic.

I regularly make presentations and there are certain methods I have used to get creative ideas for presentations.

1. Partner in crime: Find out a person who is enthusiatic about the presentation and discuss the content of the presentation. Discuss how to present each idea and what interesting things can be done.

There might be cases when your partern is just a passive listener. He/she does not know much about the topic. Even then having the partner as a listener can help you get more clarity about the presentation and get very creative ideas.

2. Change: If you have a desk job and you are looking for creative ideas then change your location. Go to an open space or sit in a park. Sit in places you are comfortable with but do not be in your usual place.

3. Eliminate Noise: If you are planning your next presentation and want to get creative ideas, I would suggest you to switch off your internet and mobile. Give yourself some time. Dedicate a few hours only to this process.

4. Tools: Use a whiteboard or many pieces of white paper to write as you think. Dont worry about what you write. Keep drawing and making notes as ideas come to you. When you 'see' an idea in front of you, that gives you a better picture.

5. 24x7: Ideas come uninvited. Keep thinking about your presentation while coming back home, while taking a walk. You never know when the right idea will strike.

Vivek,

Really interesting/useful suggestions here.
You mention change location. I go to a local cafe. Really helps.
"Dont worry about what you write. Keep drawing and making notes as ideas come to you" – yes, and when people are critical of ideas as they first emerge, it prevents more ideas emerging. Also, how often do poor ideas turn into great ideas. Sure we need to be analytical of ideas – but not at the beginning of the creative-thinking process. We need to be open and reserve judgment once we've allotted sufficient time to this part of the ideas process (i think from experience ..).
"Ideas come uninvited" – yes. And we're so used to planning for things that we can find the creative-thinking process frustrating (well, for me at least). Ideas can't be forced, with good ones often appearing when we least expect ..
